Self Love v/s Selfishness

Are you confused?
Are you thinking the same what I am thinking?
Is there any difference between this two?
Am I insane?
I hope I make some sense at the end….

One always says that one should love oneself. But does loving oneself is different from being selfish. I think yes; it is! Self love when exceeds its limit becomes selfishness. As we say there is very thin line between confidence and overconfidence, in the same way I would say “there is very thin line between self love and being selfish”.

One should always love oneself. If one is not doing it then that means we are committing a crime. Self love is the best love. If you love yourself than you would love others and allow others to love you.

For example: Suppose you are ill and you are not ready to take care of yourself by just ignoring it or cursing the situation that made you sick. In that case others will try to help you and try to arrange a doctor/medicine for you but its you who need to take the initiative to accept the same. In any case, it will be you who will win or lose by taking proper care.

Suppose you are stubborn and not ready to listen to others, than at one point of time others will think, it’s no use to tell you. Finally other person will stop helping you and you may again point at that person saying that he/she is not helping, not taking care for you. But I would say its you who have taken this step of not loving yourself and compromising on situation by cursing it. Instead take remedial step and move ahead, finally precaution is better than cure. Who knows your irresponsibility at this point of time might lead to big problem in future which might affect you and others associated with you. At that point of time you and your loved ones would be in such situation that even after realizing the mistake won’t be able to help out much on this.

Selfishness on the other hand is very different from self love. Self love is a positive attribute whereas being selfish is negative. Being selfish means harming others from beginning. It may lead to happy moments for oneself initially but in long run it will surely harm and leave one being isolated.

I think Self love is the best love. Suppose at one instant if we forget it, than one should think “Will this act of mine will make my parents happy” and the answer would give you the way to love yourself. If you won’t like to live for yourself than I would suggest live for parents; as the dreams they have seen can be fulfilled only by you and none other.

I donno does I made any sense with this but I may ask you (readers) few questions...

What do you think..
Is self-love important or no?
Is self love different from being selfish?
Can Self love lead to being selfish?

I feel self love is the romanticized version of self esteem...correct me if I am wrong...loving themselves is innate to all living beings...only when a person is depressed/suicidal that the degree of self love diminishes dramatically...self esteem is critized by many psychologists...they advocate unconditional self acceptance...is self love the same as being selfish...yes and no...does self love lead to selfishness...if in excess...bordering on absolute self-centeredness...yes!
