What is this oil all about? Some feel it is life line whereas other might feel it’s the way by through which inflation takes place, yet for others it’s a fuel. But did we ever try to find what this oil is about.
Well I feel Oil stands for “Oil is Life”. We never analyze nor do we see the usage of oil in our life. Each and every factor directly or indirectly that relates to us have direct or indirect relation with oil. Be it a food product or transportation; each and everything has its connection with Oil. Than why don’t we ever see on what price we pay against what price it prevails in international market?
Whenever the prices are hiked we directly blame the government for the same. Have we ever focused on the crude prices that are prevailing internationally and the prices of what we pay for petrol, diesel, LPG (cooking Gas), kerosene? The answer is NO, but yet we are always ahead to fight and blame government on the ground that how a common man, middle class, lower middle class, poor people would live their life and all. But we would never thank government on our part that government is delaying the increase in prices just to prevent the burden on us. We would never try to find the reality. We would never try to use public transportation system to save petrol/diesel. We would never switch off the bikes/cars whenever we are waiting for someone or at signals.
The prices that we pay currently for Petrol, diesel, LPG were decided when the crude oil prices in international market was prevailing at $30-$40 per barrel. Current price of crude oil in international market is about $120-$135 yet if we see the increase in prices of petrol and diesel was only Rs.2-5/ litre (prior to increase which has been today). This means that crude oil prices were hiked by 4 times but the value that we used to pay was only a hike of 5-10%. This is all because of subsidy that we used to get from government.
If we move ahead in the same way than sooner or later not oil companies but government could also face the heat of deficit in balance of payment. Lets every one unite and provide some steps, solutions to government on the problem. Why not we fix our usage, why not we decide and try to reduce our consumption. Let’s pledge that we will not waste the oil, after all it’s not renewable and one day will come when we won’t be even seeing the traces of oil. Let’s keep some quantity of oil for our future generation too. Lets give them an opportunity to thank there ancestors, lets make this world a better place by reducing the emission that we generate by burning oil. Let’s unite and pledge that atleast we won’t waste oil on our part; we would use public transport atleast for 1 day in a month; if possible than we would try to use energy efficient vehicles and products so as to decrease the fuel usage.

hi Jigs,
the post mentioned in rediff says about international price of crude and why it is fluctuating/increasing but the point i meant over here is altogether different.
What i mean to say is in indian context and how we shall take it, Why we counter that. Why dont we understand that when it is increasing in international market than we need to determine our prices with that.
Yes but we need to focus on alternate modes also such as reducing Taxes too as we need to see common man and middle class who cant afford such increase in prices but at the same time we need to stop the waste that we generate while using fuel.
yea... its a differnet context .. just wnated to share this global prespective as u in the same feild and its not just our country who is facing this problem
